House Republicans have rejected a bill that would have banned prospective employers from asking for applicants’ Facebook passwords, deeming the bill unnecessary.

Facebook has reported an alarming increase of employers seeking access to private accounts.

The social media giant has warned users never to share passwords or to let others access accounts, saying it’s a violation of their statement of rights and responsibilities.
